STEP 1: Convert numeric grade into letter grade using the CCSD grading scale

               100-90=A;     89-80=B;      79-74=C;      73-70=D;     69 & below=F

STEP 2: Assign appropriate points according to the course and the letter grade above

STEP 3: Find the sum (add up) from the points assigned in STEP 2.

STEP 4: Divide by the number of courses that make up the sum in STEP 3.

Types of GPA's

Weighted GPA:

This GPA can be found on your PHS/CCSD transcript. It includes the Quality Points (QP's) for Honor's, AP and eligible Dual Enrollment classes. This GPA includes ALL classes on the transcript.

Unweighted GPA:

This GPA can be found on your PHS/CCSD transcript. It does NOT include the Quality Points (QP's) for Honor's, AP and eligible Dual Enrollment classes. This GPA includes ALL classes on the transcript.

Academic/Core GPA:

A self-calculated GPA only containing ELA, Math, Sci, SS & World Languages. This type of GPA does NOT include elective courses. Many colleges will calculate just the academic/core GPA when determining admission. It is best to ask each college how they calculate GPA's. In addition, they may or may not include QP's.

HOPE GPA:

This GPA is what determines eligibility for the HOPE scholarship program. It is calculated by the Georgia Finance Commission. QP's are calculated differently than CCSD/PHS's GPA. You can find your HOPE GPA by making an account on www.gafutures.org. A Social Security Number is required to gain access to a student's HOPE GPA. If you cannot gain access, please email your school counselor.
